Care & Keeping

Most of this is tougher than it looks and a couple of things aren't. Find your material.

Glazed ceramic and stoneware — Warm water and a soft cloth. Skip the dishwasher on anything with a matte finish or an unglazed base; detergent dulls the glaze over time and raw clay drinks it. Nothing with metallic detail goes in a microwave.

Glass — Warm water, a drop of dish soap, dried with a lint-free cloth so it doesn't spot. Never clean a shade while the bulb is still warm. Opal glass hides dust beautifully and then gives up all at once, so do it monthly whether it looks like it needs it or not.

Brushed steel and aluminium — Wipe along the grain, never across it. A damp cloth handles most things; for fingerprints, a little dish soap, then dry straight away. Nothing abrasive, and keep bleach and oven cleaner away from it entirely.

Mirror-polished steel and chrome — Shows everything, including your attempt to clean it. Dry microfibre, or barely damp. Glass cleaner leaves a film.

Powder-coated metal — Damp cloth only. Solvents lift the colour, and once the coating is chipped the steel underneath will mark.

Paper shades — A dry soft brush, or a hairdryer on cold. Never damp. Paper discolours slowly in direct sun. That's normal and it isn't reversible, so keep it off a south-facing sill if you mind.

Anything with a bulb — Let it cool fully before you touch the shade, stay at or under the wattage listed above, and use an LED where you can. It runs cooler, which is kinder to paper, glass and cord alike.

Not sure which applies? The materials are in the details above, or just ask us.

What happens after you order

Packed and handed to the carrier within 2 business days. Tracking as soon as it moves.

Most orders arrive 14–28 days after that. Lighting and smaller objects land at the earlier end, furniture at the later. Our pieces are made by a small number of workshops and manufacturers overseas and most ship to you directly from there — that's why it's three weeks and not three days.

If it stalls, we email you. You shouldn't have to chase us to find out where something is.

Most sales are final. If it arrives damaged, defective, or isn't what you ordered, email us within five days with photos and we'll put it right. You also have 24 hours to cancel before dispatch, no reason needed.

Ask before you order. hello@moodier.co — measurements, fittings, whether it'll work where you want it.

Nothing here matches

Not the ceramics to the lamps, not the lamps to each other. A room gets interesting at the point it stops agreeing with itself.

A short list, on purpose

We'd rather show you nine we'd put in our own living room than nine hundred we've never seen.

If it arrives wrong, we fix it

Damaged, defective or not what you ordered — five days, a photo, and we put it right.

Frequently asked questions

How long will my order take?

We pack and hand it to the carrier within two business days. Most orders arrive 14–28 days after that. You'll have tracking as soon as it moves, and if anything stalls, we email you before you have to ask.

Can I return something if I just don't like it?

No, and we'd rather say that plainly than bury it. We're a small shop, and change-of-mind returns on three-week shipping would end us. What we do instead is answer any question before you order, however small — measurements, finishes, whether it'll work where you're putting it. Email us at hello@moodier.co with any questions

If something sells out, will it come back?

Sometimes, often not. A lot of what we carry is a short run, and when it's gone we'd rather find the next thing than reorder the last one. Email if there's something specific and we'll tell you honestly.

Does it arrive assembled?

Ceramics and objects arrive in one piece. Shelving and some furniture arrives flat with hardware included — nothing needs a tool you don't already own. If a piece is an exception, it says so in the details.

What happens if I'm not home when it arrives?

Most things fit through a door or get left by the carrier. Larger pieces may need a signature — your tracking will say. If a parcel goes back to the depot unclaimed, carriers charge storage and return fees, so keep an eye on the tracking in week three.
